As we wrapped up another incredible school year, our recent field trip to Ability360 turned out to be more than just an outing — it became one of the most meaningful, eye-opening, and emPOWERing experiences our students, families, and staff have shared together.
From the moment we arrived, the environment was welcoming, inclusive, encouraging, and full of positive energy. The staff showed extraordinary patience and kindness while teaching us about adaptive sports, equipment, movement, and perseverance. Every student and adult felt seen, supported, and challenged in the best possible way.
This trip helped all of us step into perspectives outside of our own and develop deeper admiration and respect for individuals who use adaptive equipment or participate in adaptive sports. Many of our students walked away realizing not only how challenging some physical tasks can be, but also how incredibly resilient, determined, and mentally strong people are when they continue pushing toward their goals despite obstacles.
What impacted us most was seeing firsthand that disabled bodies should never be underestimated or discounted. Strength comes in many forms. The athletes and individuals we encountered demonstrated that people with disabilities can accomplish anything an able-bodied person can do — and sometimes even more — through perseverance, creativity, adaptability, and dedication. It reminded all of us that limitations do not define potential.
The experience also encouraged our students to appreciate their own abilities while becoming more comfortable embracing their weaknesses, challenges, and moments of failure. At Ability360, trying something new was celebrated. Falling short was okay. Learning was encouraged. Growth was everywhere. That kind of environment creates confidence, courage, and connection.
By the end of the day, we realized this trip strengthened more than just our physical stamina — it strengthened our inner and outer mental, emotional, social, and physical resilience as well. It reinforced our organization’s commitment to creating programming that is truly inclusive, supportive, and accessible to all abilities.
Because of the impact this experience had on our youth and families, we are now actively exploring ways to return at least once a month during the next school year through a potential corporate partnership opportunity. We believe experiences like this are essential in helping young people build empathy, confidence, teamwork, and respect for others.
Thank you to the amazing staff at Ability360 for creating such an unforgettable experience for our students and families. Your encouragement, patience, and passion inspired all of us, and we look forward to continuing this relationship in the future.
We didn’t just leave stronger physically — we left stronger as people.
