ATO Coaches Attend Delivering Democracy 2025 with Spike Lee

On Saturday, March 1st, our entire ATO Coach team had the privilege of attending the Delivering Democracy 2025 event featuring none other than the iconic filmmaker and Academy Award winner, Spike Lee—live and in person. Hosted by the ASU Center for the Study of Race and Democracy (CSRD) and held at historic Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Phoenix, AZ, this free, community-centered event was nothing short of electric.

From the moment Spike took the stage, it felt like we were sitting in a family circle, listening to that one wise and witty uncle who always keeps it real. He dropped nuggets of wisdom, bursts of laughter, and timeless truths about culture, community, and the creative journey. His storytelling was raw, unapologetic, inspiring—and deeply rooted in history.

We came as educators, artists, and mentors, and left as students of life all over again. The energy in the room was unforgettable. Spike Lee is exactly who he is on film: bold, brilliant, and authentic. Somehow, it felt like we’d known him forever.

A special thank you to our Community Liaison Board Member, Pat Wesley, for making sure we did NOT miss this incredible opportunity. Your continued support and advocacy keep us connected to experiences that feed our mission and energize our team.

Some of the powerful moments we captured are pictured below—photo credits to the Pilgrim Rest Social Media Team for beautifully documenting the event and sharing the spirit of the evening with the community.

Thank you to ASU CSRD for creating space for moments like these—where art meets activism, and where communities are inspired to rise.

This experience lit a new fire in our team. As we continue to pour into our youth through creative expression and performing arts, we carry these moments forward—reminded that our stories matter, our voices are powerful, and our presence is necessary.
