This Read Across America Day, Coach Peaches was honored to be invited as a guest speaker at ASU Pilgrim Rest, where she led a heartfelt and eye-opening session titled: โ€œApples vs. Oranges โ€“ Embracing Your Unique Value.โ€

The session was specially designed for a group of middle school girls and began with a simple, playful question: Which is betterโ€”apples or oranges?ย That friendly debate opened the door for a deeper conversation about comparison, self-worth, and what it means to truly value yourself.

Using creative activities like fruit lists, Venn diagrams, and group brainstorming, Coach Peaches encouraged the girls to reflect on how comparisons show up in their everyday lives. The room was filled with vulnerability, laughter, and "aha" moments as they made connections between fruit preferences and real-life pressures to be someone they're not.

The session also included critical analysis of music videos and media messaging, featuring: ๐ŸŽต โ€œWho You Areโ€ย by Jessie Jย โ€“ reminding them to hold on to their identity through lifeโ€™s storms๐ŸŽต โ€œScars to Your Beautifulโ€ย by Alessia Caraย โ€“ a bold reminder that worth isnโ€™t defined by appearance๐ŸŽฅ Dove Self-Esteem Projectโ€™sย โ€œChange One Thing | How Our Girls See Themselvesโ€ย โ€“ sparking honest conversations about self-image and the impact of one small comment.

To close out the lesson, students participated in affirmation and self-esteem exercises, leaving the room with a powerful coloring keepsake illustrated by Coach Sha, meant to be a visual reminder of their inherent beauty and strength.

A huge thank you to Coach Ray, who supported the session with seamless A/V assistance and transitions, helping create an experience the girls wonโ€™t forget.

Weโ€™re beyond grateful for this opportunity and hope we deposited a few seeds of confidence, reflection, and self-loveย that will grow every time these girls look in the mirror.

Remember: apples and oranges may be different, but both are fruitfully madeโ€”with purpose and sweetness all their own. ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŠ
